For this exercise we were encouraged to use a direct overpaint technique to exaggerate the colors of the photo.

I did the outlining first with a mouse and then used the bucket to fill in the outlines. I tried to use as little color as possible, so the transforming would not be a cartoon replica of the photo. I used the burn tool to subtly darken some of the faces, especially Thomas Jefferson’s face, as well.

I also really liked the texture of the rocks themselves, so I kept some in for  interesting detail. For the skies I also used the burn tool to create the gradient.
